4F2 cell surface weight antigen chain, also known as 4F2 heavy chain antigen, lymphocyte activating antigen, 4F2 large subunit, CD98, SLC3A2, and MDU1, are type I single-channel membrane proteins, belonging to the family of SLC3A conveyors. SLC3A2 / MDU1 is universally expressed in all tissues analyzed, with the highest levels detected in the kidney, placenta and testes, while the level of expression in fear is lower. During pregnancy, the full-time expression of the placenta is significantly stronger than in the second trimester. SLC3A2 / MDU1 is expressed in HUVECS and expressed at low levels in resting peripheral blood T lymphocytes and quiet fibroblasts. It is expressed in fetal liver and astrocytes in primary astroglial glioma. SLC3A2 / MDU1 is also expressed in retinal endothelial cells and in the intestinal epithelial cell line Caco2-BBE. SLC3A2 / MDU1 is required for the Chinese light acid transporter function. It has been involved in the independent transport of large neutral sodium amino acids, such as phenylalanine, tyrosine, leucine, arginine, and tryptophan. SLC3A2 / MDU1 is involved in the orientation and direction of LAT1 and LAT2 to the plasma membrane. When combined with SLC7A6 or SLC7A7, SLC3A2 / MDU1 acts as an arginine / glutamine exchanger, following the antidepressant mechanism of amino acid transport and affecting the release of arginine against amino acids between cells. SLC3A2 / MDU1 plays a role in the synthesis of nitric oxide in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) through the transport of L-arginine. It is necessary for normal and neoplastic cell growth. When combined with SLC7A5 / LAT1, SLC3A2 / MDU1 also participates in the transport of L-DOPA across the blood-brain barrier and in the transport of the thyroid hormones triiodothyroxine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) across cell membranes to tissues such as the placenta.
